Meteorite Scams |

In April of 2006 Dirk Ross reported : "More than 5000 tons
of Mekong Iron have now been sold. I know the village
suppliers personally. They are not the persons behind
the scam and they know what they are selling because I
have worked with them for more than five years during
my research. The persons pulling the scam are in Bangkok. Recently also there has been a flood of imported meteorites into Bangkok and they are sold with various labels and various classifications as a means to scam buyers. The most commonly sold is Nantan because it is cheap to obtain from China. I visit Thailand about once a month and keep an eye on what is going on in the meteorite market as well as go to the field to do my tektite research. I have just returned 10 days ago, so my information is the most recent. I also saw alot of slag being sold as meteorite and tektite while in Bangkok and several Europeans (Germans and French) buying the stuff. Mekong Iron now is selling at 75-200$/kg in Bangkok."
